Welcome to the Office of Online Learning’s Proctoring service! We are here for your proctoring needs: both online and on USM’s Hattiesburg and Gulf Park Campuses. Our proctoring service is not a walk-in service and an exam cannot be made on the phone or through email. An application + fee must be submitted through a proctoring portal below.

If you plan to test at Scianna Hall, please do not fill out a proctoring application on this site.

Attention: Students should not fill out an application to take exams through Examity.

Requirements

All proctoring fees must be paid at the time the application is submitted. Payments can be made by debit / credit card only. Fees cannot be charged to student accounts.

Be aware of proctoring deadlines. Please note: you must schedule a proctored exam 3-4 (depending on proctoring site deadlines listed below) business days before testing day or a late fee will be charged.

All students must provide a photo ID before testing. Examples include; school ID, driver’s license, or government issued ID.

Virtual Proctoring Within Canvas

Southern Miss is partnering with Examity® to assist you in your proctoring needs for your online classes. Scheduling appointments is done through your Canvas course. This provides another option for distance students who can’t meet at a proctoring center.

  1. System requirements for Examity includes access to a high speed Internet connection, built in or external working, webcam and microphone.
  2. Pricing for Examity is
    • "Live Premium" $18.00 for the first hour and $10.00 for each additional hour plus tax.
    • "Live Standard" $15.00 for first hour and $8.00 for each additional hour plus tax.
  3. Scheduling must be complete one (1) day (24 hours) prior to the end of the exam. If you are scheduling less than 24 hours in advance, you must select the “On-Demand” scheduling option at a cost of $5.00 extra.
  4. Scheduling a virtual proctor should be done through the Canvas course rather than the Examity website. Additional information can be found on the Examity page.

Before considering proctoring you must read the University's Proctoring Policy.

Faculty members must provide necessary proctoring information to students including cost, exam dates and on-campus testing information.

Please email Vanessa%20McCullum for inquiries.

FIRST DATE FOR PROCTORED EXAMS
No proctored exams are to be scheduled or required before the third (3rd) week of the class during fall and spring semesters. No proctored exam should be scheduled before the second (2nd) week for summer semester. This time period is needed for students to submit their applications for examination by proctor, and for identifying and approving proctors, and the verification of exam dates.

DEADLINE FOR EXAM DOCUMENTS AND DATES TO PROCTOR
The Office of Online Learning proctoring services no longer accept paper-based exams. The Office of Online Learning offers assistance in the process of creating exams and setting up proctor passwords in Canvas. If you need assistance, please contact Susan Rayborn at 601.266.6589.

All instructors must submit a password/instruction document(s) for each online exam(s) no later that the tenth (10th) working day of the semester. The password/instruction document should include the date(s) the exam is to be given, time allotted to take the exam, navigation to the exam and any instructions as to what students may have with them during the exam. If you would like a sample document, one can be provided to you by the proctor.

ON-CAMPUS STUDENTS
Instructors should designate a date, time, and classroom location for their exam to be offered on-campus, administered by you, and advise their students of this information.

The Office of Online Learning will provide proctoring services for on-campus or local students in the case of an emergency or if a class or work schedule conflicts with the time the exam is scheduled with you, the instructor.

These students will be charged a $10 processing fee and are subject to the late fee if applicable. This same service is offered for our Southern Miss Gulf Coast students at the Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach, MS.

ONLINE STUDENTS
Students who are online are responsible for locating an appropriate proctor. All online students will submit their application to the proctor in the Office of Online Learning for approval and processing.

STUDENTS WHO REQUIRE DISABILITY ACCOMMODATIONS
It is the responsibility of the faculty member to provide modified instructions for students with disability accommodations. These accommodations must be met when students are taking an exam. Students can choose to be proctored through the Office of Disability

Located on the second floor (east) of Scianna Hall, the College of Business and Economic Development Testing Center can accommodate over 80 business students.

NOTE: This free proctoring service is available for business students only.

To schedule an exam with the Student Accessibility Services (SAS), you must be registered with us and have Alternative Testing Accommodations.

SAS recommends that students schedule exams at least two (2) business days in advance. This is to ensure testing space and exam availability. For students testing at the Gulf Park location, you must allow a minimum of four (4) days before the requested examination date,
